Summary
Almshouse built in 1741 of colourwashed brick with a pitched Purbeck slate roof and red brick chimney stacks. Central pediment with an oblong panel surrounding a tablet inscribed "This ALMSHOUSE Founded time immemorial for the maintenance of six antient Men and five Women was Endowed AD 1418 by JOHN STRECH Esqr and Rebuilt by HENRY DRAX and JOHN PITT Esqrs. AD 1741."

Full Description
Almshouse (NAT) (1) Almshouses in East Street, Wareham of two storeys with brick walls and stone slated roof were originally founded by John Streche pre-1418, but were rebuilt in 1741 and have since been modernised internally. (2) Gde 2* (3). A hospital or house of charity in Wareham, founded for six paupers, is mentioned in a single 16th century reference and may be associated with the almshouse described above. (4).
