Full Description

(ST 65150488) Tumulus (NR) (1) A mound, probably the remains of a barrow, 1050yds north west of the church on the south side of the road. It is 34ft in diameter and 2 3/4ft high with a circular sinking in the middle. (2-3) A circular mound of compacted flint and earth, 16.0m overall diameter, with no visible ditch. The middle of the mound is quite flat, 8.0m in diameter, 0.4m above natural ground level and enclosed by a bank or rim approximately 4.0m wide overall and 0.7m high (0.3m high on the inner side). The depressed centre is absolutely regular and the perimeter rim appears to be an original feature suggesting a possible ring barrow. It is grass covered in a plantation of mature oak and apparently undamaged. Published 1:2500 survey revised. (4)
