Summary

A bowl barrow located at the top of a hill 230 metres north east of Great Strode House. The barrow has a mound, reduced in size by ploughing but previously recorded as having a diameter of 20 metres, surviving to a height of 1 metre. Surrounding the mound is a quarry ditch which has become infilled over the years but survives as a buried feature about 3 metres wide. It lies in the corner of a modern field and has been mutilated by ploughing.

Full Description

A barrow in Netherebury parish, omitted from 'Dorset Barrows' has been reported by N H Field. It is situated north of Emmanuel Cross, at SY 458991. <1> SY 4582 9897. A bowl-barrow some 36 feet across and 6 feet high was discovered North of Emmanuel's Cross in 1960. <2> The site of a Bronze Age barrow is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs to the south west of Higher Hingsdon Farm <3-4>. It lies in the corner of a modern field, is approximately 12m across, and has been mutilated by ploughing. The site was digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.
