Full Description

Lynchets on an east slope to the west of Manor Farm form three terraces with a cross-bank. <1> Centred SY 48759575. From a small rectangular area to the north, typical medieval depopulation, a terraced trackway giving a lynchet-like effect extends to the south. The remainder of the area consists of rectilinear fields whose boundaries are marked by lynchet-like banks. The site probably represents a deserted medieval farmstead with associated field system. It lies on eastern slope and is grass-covered. No strip lynchets were seen. <2> The earthwork remains of possible medieval lynchets visible <3> in several fields to the west of the village of Mangerton. Those located nearest the village survive in better condition. Those in adjacent fields have been ploughed and are only visible as slight banks. <8> A series of lynchets are visible as earthworks on lidar imagery and aerial photographs on the east facing slope to the west of Mangerton Farm <3-6>. The appears to include a terraced trackway, cultivation terraces and field boundaries presumably associated with a medieval farmstead settlement.
