Full Description
In the central area of enclosure 1 and immediately inside the south entrance was a courtyard area, which was exposed during the 1993 excavations by AC archaeology on the Maiden Castle School site. The courtyard was exposed but not excavated. It appeared as a hollow, probably as a result of having been terraced into the slope and had a surface of flint gravel, which had been covered by layers of soil and chalk rubble. This courtyard area was about 10m by 11m across.
