Four ditches were found in evaluation Trench 4 during the evaluation of an area proposed for community woodland by Wessex Archaeology in 1998. These shallow eroded ditches were all oriented E-W and had U-shaped profiles. No dating evidence was recovered from any of these ditches. Their similar orientation to the Late Iron Age / Roman ditched trackway just to the north (found in evaluation Trench 3) suggests they may be of a similar date and are the remains of field boundaries.

Four ditches were found in evaluation Trench 4 during the evaluation of an area proposed for community woodland by Wessex Archaeology in 1998 (1) (2). The numbers in square brackets are context numbers used in the report and archive (2) (3).
Four similar parallel ditches, oriented E-W, were found in the northern part of Trench 4. Ditches [402], [404] and [406] had similar U-shaped profiles and were between 0.35m and 0.5m wide and 0.1m-0.15m deep. Ditch [408] was larger, 1.2m wide and 0.15m deep. No dating evidence was recovered from any of these ditches. Their similar orientation to the Late Iron Age / Roman ditched trackway just to the north (found in evaluation Trench 3) suggests they may be of a similar date and are the remains of field boundaries.
A continuation of Ditch [408] was found to the west in an evaluation trench excavated by Wessex Archaeology in 1991 (4).
