Monument record MDO18351 - 5 South Terrace, South Street, Dorchester; post-medieval well

A post-medieval well was discovered during the construction of a new extension to the rear of 5 South Terrace, South Street, Dorchester in June 1996. The well was brick lined in its lower part and brick and stone in the upper part.

A well was discovered during works associated with a new extension to 5 South Terrace, South Street, Dorchester in June 1996 and recorded by Steve Wallis of the Dorset County Council Archaeology Service. The well was found at the rear of the property behind the wall at the rear of the basement. It was circular in cross-section and was lined with brick in its lower part and with a rubbly mix of brick and stone in its upper part. It was c. 1.5m wide and 8m deep.
