Monument record MDO18456 - Middle Farm, Dorchester; Late Bronze Age round house 1176

Round house 1176 was found in a sondage through the colluvial deposits which covered most of the southern part of Trench 4 during excavation at Middle Farm undertaken by Wessex Archaeology in 1992. It comprised a 7m diameter post ring of seven pairs of postholes. A large number of other postholes were found in the area, both within and outside the structure, possibly indicating alterations or the presence of further structures. No indication of a porch or of an entrance was found. No floor levels survived. No dating evidence was recovered but it is likely that the structure is of Late Bronze Age date.
