Summary

A strip lynchet described as being around 12 feet high. A map of 1774 shows this as part of the West Field of Owermoigne. The strip lynchet and a second lynchet lying parallel to the north are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs.

Full Description

SY 762845. A strip lynchet consisting of a riser, 12ft high with a tread 10 yards wide formed a strip of 'West Field' in 1774. <1> (Depicted as a slope symbol from SY 76308452-SY 76218462 on OS 6" 1963). The strip lynchet centred at SY 76258460, approximately 150m long, remains as described by RCHM. <2> The strip lynchet and a second lynchet lying parallel to the north are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs <3>. The lynchets are formed of linear banks measuring up to 225 m in length. The southernmost of the two lynchets has an associated ditch to the south. These features were digitally plotted as part of the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
