Summary
Probable Late Roman grave 087 was one of seven graves discovered during the small-scale excavations at Trumpet Major II in 1987. The grave was sub-rectangular and oriented NE-SW, containing the extended inhumation of a male aged 25-35. No grave goods were recovered. It is probably associated with the late Roman cemetery just to the south on the Alington Avenue site.

Full Description
Found during a small-scale excavations conducted by Wessex Archaeology on the site of an extension to the Trumpet Major Public House in 1987 (1). The numbers in square brackets below refer to the context and feature numbers used in the published report (1).
Grave [087] was one of seven extended burials were found lying immediately SW of the Trumpet Major Public House during the Trumpet Major II excavations. The sub-rectangular grave was 1.7m long, 0.6m wide, 0.54m deep. It contained the extended inhumation of an adult male aged 25-35, with the arms by the side. The burial was unaccompanied by grave goods. The grave is undated but probably belongs to the late Roman period.
