Summary
An infant burial in a shallow grave was found cut into the chalk floor of a Late Roman building 572, excavated by Wessex Archaeology at County Hall, Dorchester, in 1988. This grave was sealed by a repair to the floor.

Full Description
Found during the excavations carried out by Wessex Archaeology in 1988 prior to construction of the New Computer Wing and car parking facilities at County Hall, Dorchester (1) (2). The numbers in square brackets below refer to the context and feature numbers used in the published report (1).
An infant burial, a neonate aged 6 months, was found in a shallow grave [531] cut into the chalk floor of the late Roman building [572]. The burial was crouched, laid on its right side with the head to the north. This grave was then sealed by a patch to the chalk floor of the building.
