Summary
Archaeological monitoring during the construction of a new covered market area and associated works at Fairfield Road, Dorchester, was carried out by AC Archaeology between May and July 2001.
Two pottery vessels each containing charred human bone were identified within Test Pit 9. Cremation [164] was located within a pottery vessel [163] placed within a shallow sub-oval cut [166].

Full Description
Archaeological monitoring during the construction of a new covered market area and associated works at Fairfield Road, Dorchester, was carried out by AC Archaeology between May and July 2001.
Two pottery vessels each containing charred human bone were identified within Test Pit 9. Cremation [164] was located within a pottery vessel [163] placed within a shallow sub-oval cut [166] at the southern end of TP9.
In addition, other cut features, including ditches and two inhumation burials, were recorded, as well as two large quantities of Romano-British artefacts.
