Summary

Bowl barrow situated within a prehistoric field system. Lynchets, on either side of the barrow have clearly respected it. In 1970 this monument was reported as being around 37 feet in diameter with a mound about 5½ feet high, and damaged at the base by ploughing.

Full Description

One of two bowl barrows. The barrows have an average diameter 16 paces and height of 7 feet. <2> Barrow 'A' - a grass covered ditchless bowl barrow; diameter 14 metres, height 1.9 metres. <3> SY 70389581- Piddlehinton 4; a bowl barrow visible as an earthwork, 14 paces in diameter and 6 feet high. Excavations by Cunnington recorded five urned cremations all located beneath a cairn. Three of the urns had been inverted. <4> Barrow 'A' - (18) - SY 70389582. Bowl barrow, 37 feet in diameter and 5 1/2 feet high, the base of which has been disturbed by ploughing. A 'Celtic' field lynchet runs up to the barrow, on either side, and has clearly respected it. <5> "SY 705958. Two round barrows on Little Puddle Hill". Scheduled. <6> Barrow 'A'. SY 70379581. Bowl barrow, diameter 12 metres, height 1.6 metres; grass-covered in arable. The barrow does not have a visible ditch, nor has it been ploughed. Re-surveyed at 1:2500 on M.S.D. <7>
