Full Description

Mentioned in a charity certificate of Edw VI (Chant Cert No 16 No 89). <1> (Area SY 69829060). "The site of Stonehouse, and Messrs Watt's Yard and perhaps part of the present vicarage, was occupied soon after the Black Death by a leper called `La Maudelayne', and adjoining it an abode for a privileged hermit." Mentioned in 1367 as the chapel of St Mary Magdalene. <2> Two lesser hospitals or hospices. Net income under #50 <3>. SY 69829061. The house 40.0 metres NNE of the Vicarage is Stonehouse and Messrs Watt's yard. It lies between, and partly east of the two houses. No trace of antiquity was found. <4> Lazar House at Dorchester. Foundation date unknown. Dissolved after 1547. Probably an early foundation which had become an almshouse for ten poor men by 1547. <5>
