Full Description
Mr A Pope exhibited a bag of coins found by his workmen whilst excavating the site of his new house, South Court, Dorchester, at the second Winter meeting of the DNHAFC on the 19th Feb 1895. <1>
Mr A Pope was an FSA, and if he had found a hoard of coins they would have been reported. I have seen several Roman coins which I believed were picked up from time to time by his gardeners. The “bag” would refer to the receptacle he carried them in.
I have never heard of any single find of a number of coins, but there are several Roman coins in the house which were found in the grounds and collected by my grandfather, Mr A Pope. <2>
