Summary
An archaeological watching brief during installation of an emergency power supply at Christchurch Priory, Christchurch, in 2006, revealed a possible medieval Purbeck stone pavement at a depth of c. 0.11m at the base of the south transept. This pavement had been disturbed and re-laid in the recent past, but indicates the survival of earlier, possibly medieval, structures adjacent to the church building.

ASI Heritage Consultants conducted an archaeological watching brief during the installation of an emergency power supply at Christchurch Priory, Christchurch, in 2006. The following description is derived from an unpublished client report (1).
The investigations uncovered a possible medieval Purbeck stone pavement at a depth of c. 0.11m at the base of the south transept and extending along c. 2m of the cable trench. This pavement had been disturbed and re-laid in the recent past, but indicates the survival of earlier, possibly medieval, structures adjacent to the church building.
