Full Description

AC Archaeology conducted an archaeological evaluation of land adjacent to Millhams Street, Christchurch, during 1999 in advance of proposed redevelopment. It was subsequently published as a short note in the PDNHAS vol. 122 (1). Much of the following description is derived from an unpublished client report (2). Three trenches were excavated and a large pit [F105] was revealed in the middle of Trench 1, which was located at the western end of the site. [F105] was circular in plan with an approximate diameter of over 1.20m. the exposed profile showed steep sides and the feature was filled with a mid grey-brown silty sand containing occasional gravel fragments. Five sherds of 13th-14th century pottery were recovered from this fill.
