Summary

Excavations in the south-east corner of Christchurch Priory precinct, during 1969-70, revealed a masonry wall projecting into the mill stream from the foundations of the Priory precinct wall. This is likely to represent a structure depicted on the Mews estate map of c. 1715 with the words ‘Salmon House’ within the excavation area.

Full Description

Excavations in the south-east corner of Christchurch Priory precinct, during 1969-70, revealed a masonry wall projecting into the mill stream from the foundations of the Priory precinct wall. This is likely to represent a structure depicted on the Mews estate map of c. 1715 with the words ‘Salmon House’ within the excavation area. This structure may have been a priory building not demolished at the dissolution. Excavation did not reveal levels associated with this structure.
