Summary
One fragment of Roman tile and three sherds of Roman pottery, including a slightly abraded jar rim of 3rd-4th century type, was recovered from the fill of an 18th century ditch [F4]. These residual finds may suggest the presence of an adjacent late Roman settlement on the SW side of the town.

Full Description
K. Jarvis conducted a small rescue excavation in the Druitt Gardens, Christchurch (site X14) in advance of the construction of a small access road during 1977.
(1) This might be supported by the fact that two further sherds of late roman pottery were recovered from a nearby excavation in 1972-3 (2)
