Wessex Archaeology conducted an archaeological excavation in adavnce of development at Sainsbury's car park, Christchurch (site W6) during 1981. A single scrap of probably Romano-British coarse pottery was recovered through wet-seiving the fill of the late Saxon defensive burh ditch [ditch 1].
