Summary
Excavations conducted by WG Wallace during 1921 cleared about 6 feet of a well believed to be ancient, 200 yards south of the site of St. Catherine's Chapel. A few fragments of apparently medieval pottery were found.

Full Description
WG Wallace conducted excavations on the site of St. Catherine's Chapel, Christchurch during August 1921. At the same time he investigated a shallow well 200 yards to the south of the Chapel.
This shallow well, believed to be ancient was situated below the brow of the hill and was cleared to a depth of about 6 feet. Only a few fragments of apparently medieval pottery were found.
The exact location of this well could not by determined by John Davey but it has been mapped as apoint at the head of a small combe 250m SSE of the site of St. Catherine's Chapel.
