Full Description

The Abbotsbury Railway, a branch line from Upwey (SY 6714 8327) to Abbotsbury (SY 58108532) was built by a local company and opened on November 9th 1885. It was taken over by GWR in 1896 but was never profitable. All traffic ceased on December 1st 1952 and the track was dismantled except for a short section between Upwey Junction and Upwey. This was retained for goods until 1962 when it too was dismantled. (1)
