Developments began at north end, where there was a siding from a branch of the Portland (Merchants’ ) Railway by 1863. Further developments were recorded down to 1927. Some work followed before a final major working took place in the later C20. Ceased by 2007.

The 19th to 20th century quarries in the vicinity of Withie Croft Quarries, described above in (1-9), are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of the 1940s. See MDO19486 for more details and sources.
