Please read our .

Summary

From 1901, a quarry was worked eastwards from Wakeham Street, immediately north of the railway cutting. It was extended further east by 1926, when there were several small quarries around SY 69807150. There was also a small quarry at SY 69657150; by 1960 this became the site of a 'works', now the quarry depot at Bumpers Lane. In 1999 the only significant feature was a small quarry, with no working face exposed but a bank wall mostly in good condition on the east side; probably mounted a crane. Waste tippings surrounded the quarry opening. Other former quarry areas have been backfilled. The quarry is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of the 1940s (see MDO19509 for details).
