Summary

Site. First named in 1901 and worked back along the top of Grove Cliff by 1926 when there were two footbridges across a track through the quarry. John Pearce Portland Stone Co. was recorded here in 1902 and 1920-37. The quarry is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of the 1940s (see MDO19509 for details).

Full Description

Site. First named in 1901 (1) and worked back along the top of Grove Cliff by 1926 when there were two footbridges across a track through the quarry. (2) John Pearce Portland Stone Co. was recorded here in 1902 and 1920-37. (3) The 20th century quarries are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of the 1940s in the area of Silklake Quarries and also extending to the south and north (see MDO19509 for more details). This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
