Cliff exposure in Freshwater Bay may have been quarried by 1841 but quarrying active further inland on west side by 1901 and 1926. Quarry face is partly overgrown, at west side of a once larger quarry infilled by waste tips. The northern parts are buried beneath the re-aligned Southwell Road. Some of face may post-date 1926. The quarry is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of the 1960s.
