Full Description

Rusted steel derrick mounted on a natural rock shelf beside 'quay' for stone loading. Made in Glasgow designated as 3 ton, with hand winch. There is another rusted piece of metal and timber quay furniture but out of use, some parts of previous cranes and also possibly a capstan. An interesting site, with marks of former cranes and stone cutting. The Portland Bull Quarries tramway leads to this quay. Published historical photographs show earlier cranes were made of timber. The crane is used for launching small boats. (1)
