Full Description
Michael Hodges records that an unspecified amount of Roman pottery has been found at Bosley Farmhouse (1).
It is not clear if this was found during the construction of an extension at the rear of the house during 1980, or subsequently from the garden. Several thousand medieval pottery sherds have also been recovered from the site which is recorded as a settlement in a 10th century charter (2).
The finds of Roman pottery raise the possiblity that the site may have been continuously occupied since the Roman period. However the quantity of pottery recovered is not known and it might also represent no more than background levels of Roman activity.
