Summary
Robert Hounsell & Sons warehouse and ropewalk was at 5 North Allington, Bridport from about 1855 to about 1935. They manufactured line, twine, shoe thread, fishing nets, canvas, and sporting nets. The warehouse still survives but no trace of the rope walk is now visible.

Full Description
Robert Hounsell & Sons had there premises at 5 North Allington from at least 1855 until about 1935 (1). Robert Hounsell & Sons are advertised in the Trade Directories as manufacturing line, twine, shoe thread, fishing nets, canvas, and later, sporting nets in North Allington from 1885 to 1935 (2).
The Hounsells lived at Laurel House, 5 North Allington and had their warehouse and rope walk running back from the house. The warehouse still survives and is a Grade II Listed Building, now known as the Old Linen Mill. There is no trace of the former ropewalk.
