Full Description
The Town Brewhouse and malthouse was a low L-shaped thatched building located to the east of West Mill, Bridport. The brewhouse was in private hands until 1650, when it was purchased by the Town Council. The profits were to be used for the relief of the poor and needy of Bridport. From the 1790s it saw intermittent use by a number of brewers. Later it was a pawn store, then weaving shops and finally an infant school. (1)
"Miss Gundry's Infant School" was established in 1835 or 1838 and continued in use until November 1906, when the building was destroyed by fire and demolished. (2)
