Full Description

An Iron Age roundhouse is visible as a soilmark in aerial photographs taken of Mount Pleasant henge monument (MDO2890) during excavation of the site by Geoffrey Wainwright (1970-71) {1}. Excavation of the circular post-hole structure and surrounding ditch (site IV) located within the south-west interior of the henge uncovered a roundhouse, 11m in diameter, partly overlying the eastern side of site IV. Associated finds included sherds of hard burnished ware suggesting an Iron Age origin for this feature {2}.
