Summary

A lime kiln recorded as ‘old limekiln’ on the second edition (1900-1902) Ordnance Survey map. The date of this kiln is not known but it is most likely to be late nineteenth century. A circular hollow, measuring approximately 7 metres in diameter, is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs at this location and is considered to be an associated extractive pit.

Full Description

A lime kiln recorded as ‘old limekiln’ on the second edition (1900-1902) Ordnance Survey map. The date of this kiln is not known but it is most likely to be late nineteenth century. The site was visited in 1992-93 by Peter Stanier, who could find no trace of the kiln structure. A circular hollow, measuring approximately 7 metres in diameter, is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs at this location and is considered to be an associated extractive pit. {1} This site was digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.
