A series of medieval strip lynchets are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs and lidar imagery on the slopes of Knight's Hill. They are considered to be of medieval origin and were digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.

Full Description

(SY 496968) Strip lynchets plotted from air photographs. <1> Lynchets on the east and west slopes of Knight's Hill form two systems. The eastern extends for about 450 yards and has terraces about 12 yards wide. The western system extends for about 300 yards and has terraces 9 to 16 yards wide. <2> Pronounced and approximately parallel strip lynchets, as described above. Grass-covered with steep intervening strips. Boundary supplied by field survey. <3> Lynchets clearly visible on air photographs. <4> A series of parallel medieval strip lynchets are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs and lidar imagery on the slopes of Knight's Hill <5-7>. They are considered to be of medieval origin and were digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP.
