Summary
A lime kiln recorded as ‘limekiln’ on the tithe map (1837) and the first edition (1886-9) Ordnance Survey map, and as ‘old limekiln’ on the second edition (1900-2) Ordnance Survey map. The date of this kiln is not known but it is most likely to be late nineteenth century. The site was visited in 1992-93 by Peter Stanier, who recorded that almost all (80-90%) of the kiln structure survived in fair condition. The kiln had a brick-built draw arch with rounded double arches. Other parts of the kiln were built of brick combined with stone and flint.
