Full Description

[Centred at SY 54119052] Field Systems plotted from air photographs. <1> On the top of PINS KNOLL are several regularly spaced and parallel strip lynchets, which average 1.5m high. These are grass covered, although the entrance N.E. of the field has been ploughed, and here two sherds of Md ware with a poor glaze were found, probably associated with the strip lynchets. [RB sherds have also been found in the locality for which see 39 SW 16 ] <2> To the south of Pins Knoll there are good strip lynchets, and the remains of one to the north of it, passing over the field with the I.A. burials [39 SW 16 ] though largely obliterated by ploughing. <3> Medieval strip lynchets are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs <4> on Pins Knoll, to the south of Coombefield Farm.
