Full Description

SY 748924. A mound. Diameter 12 paces, height 5 ft. <1> A small mound at the north end of an eminence, which is well suited for a barrow, but there is a local tradition of a castle and the possibility of a small keep mound cannot be ignored. The surface of the hill has been quarried & the bailey would have been destroyed. There is no literary evience for a castle having been here. (2) SY 74779245. Situated on the top of CASTLE HILL is an old surface quarry, very overgrown. On the north side and at the very edge of the quarry is a mound 14.0m in diameter and 1.3m high, bowl barrow-like in appearance but most probably the result of quarrying (3) SY 74809240. Barrow? 35ft diameter and 5ft high lies near the north end of Castle Hill. (4) "Castle Hill, just S. of a Roman road (Margary 4e), but the significance of the name is not clear," (5) Nothing is now visible here except an earth covered reservoir 15.0m. Square and 2.0m. In height.(6)
