Full Description
Beaminster Mill (Corn), together with the mill pond to the north, is marked on the First and Second Editions of the Ordnance Survey 25-inch maps. <1>
The site may be that of a medieval mill. In 1525 Philip Spelt held for life a water mill called Beaminster Mill, which was probably on or near this site. <2>
The surviving mill buildings are of rubble stone and comprise an orginal two bay structure with a two-bay extension both of two storeys plus attics. There is a stepped stone spillway to the north with a mid 19th century rack and pinion sluice. There is a headrace in a brick-arched culvert beneath the site of the former pond. <3>
The pond has been backfilled and the mill buildings have been heavily altered to form housing.
The mill has been converted to housing and is heavily altered. It is approximately 2 storeys plus attic, and is of 2 bays and an extension 2 bays. Built of rubble stone, with a stepped stone spillway to the north with mid 19th century rack and pinion sluice. There is a headrace in brick-arched culvert beneath the site of the former pond.
