Listed Building record MDO23034 - Conjuror's Lodge, Clement's Lane, Chesil, Portland
Please read our guidance about the use of Dorset Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
Late eighteenth or early nineteenth century workshop and store, with a squared and dressed stone front, rubble returns, and a corrugated asbestos-cement roof. This property is reputed to have been used during the nineteenth century by a breakaway Dissenting sect, from which comes its strange name. A rare surviving example of this building type on Portland, which, like Ranter's Lodge, has historical interest in tracing the development of non-conformity which was an important factor in the island's social history.
