Full Description

A series of long, raised cultivation ridges separated by ditches (furrows), characteristically medieval in date, are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs {1}. They overly an enclosed Iron Age field system (MDO3414). This broad ridge-and-furrow on the downland probably represents a temporary or sporadic extension of cultivation beyond the limits of the permanent arable in the Medieval period or, possibly, later. They were digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.
