Full Description
(ST 47180548) Picket Farm (NAT). (1)
Picket; an ancient farm once the property of the Mores of Melplash. Part of it seems to have been a chapel. (2)
Picket farmhouse is two storeyed with attics, built of squared rubble and flint with a slated roof. It was constructed in the 15th century on a long rectangular plan with diagonal buttresses
at the west end. The middle part of the building was much altered and rebuilt in the 17th century. In the upper storey of the east end is an original window of two trefoiled lights with tracery, now blocked. The west end has two 17th century stone windows, and the south side has remains of 16th and 17th century openings. Inside the building the original roof remains largely unaltered with eight roof trusses of collar-beam type. (3)
Picket Farmhouse, 15th cent with 17th cent. alterations. Grade II*. (4)
Picket Farm (name confirmed by owner) is a well-preserved stone farmhouse, as described by Authority 3. The reference to a chapel by Authy 2 may have been inspired by the ecclesiastical character of the blocked window at the east end. (5)
Pickett Farnhouse, former Grange. Grade II*. (6-7)
