A large group of post medieval extractive pits are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs. Many of them are marked on the 1880 OS map as chalk or gravel pits.

Full Description
A large group of post medieval extractive pits are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs {1-4}. Many of them are marked on the 1880 OS map as either chalk or gravel pits. The remainder are likely to have a similar origin, although could also be natural shake holes. They were digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.
