Summary
A group of pits are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs. Some are shown on the 1880 OS map as chalk pits. The remainder may either be chalk pits or natural shake holes.

Full Description
A group of pits are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs {1-3}. Some are shown on the 1880 OS map {4} as chalk pits and are considered likely to be of post medieval origin. The remainder are probably of a similar origin, although they could also be natural shake holes. They were digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.
