Summary
A group of pits are visible as earthworks and cropmarks on aerial photographs and LIDAR. They are considered likely to be of extractive pits of post medieval origin, although some could also be natural shake holes.

Full Description
A group of pits are visible as earthworks and cropmarks on aerial photographs {1-6} and LIDAR {7}. One is shown on the 1880 OS map {8} as an old chalk pit and is considered likely to be of post medieval origin. The remainder are probably of a similar date and function, although they could also be natural shake holes. They were digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.
