Summary
A group of pits are visible as earthworks and cropmarks on aerial photographs {1-4}. Some are chalk pits of post medieval origin. The remainder are probably of a similar origin, although some could also be natural shake holes.

Full Description
A group of pits are visible as earthworks and cropmarks on aerial photographs {1-4}. Some are marked as old chalk pits on the 1880 OS map {5} and are considered likely to be post medieval in origin. The remainder are probably of a similar origin, although some could also be natural shake holes. They were digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.
