A group of pits are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs. They are considered likely to be the sites of post medieval extarctive pits. Some are shown on the 1880 OS map as being chalk pits.

Full Description
A group of pits are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs {1-2}. They are considered likely to be the sites of post medieval extarctive pits. Some are shown on the 1880 OS map as being chalk pits {3}. The remainder are likely to have a similar origin, although a natural origin cannot be ruled out either. They were digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.
