A group of pits are visible as earthworks and cropmarks on aerial photographs {1-2}. They are considered most likely to be extractive pits of post medieval origin. However a natural origin for some of them cannot be ruled out either. They were digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.
