Summary

A Bronze Age bowl barrow. In 1952 this monument was reported as being around 30 feet in diameter with a mound about 2½ feet high. It has been disturbed in the middle, presumably in the course of antiquarian investigation.

Full Description

SY 65519574) Tumulus (NR). (1) Bowl barrow, 30 feet in diameter and 2.5 feet high situated on Stratton Down, 720 yds south-east of Jackman's Cross. It has been disturbed in the centre. (2) A tree and grass covered bowl barrow with a large central hollow. Diameter 12 metres, height 1metre. No ditch. (3) SY 65519575. A bowl barrow listed as `Howde's Barrow' by Grinsell is 10 paces diameter and 3.5ft high with hollow centre. (4) SY 65509574: bowl barrow as described. The name `Howdes Barrow' is applied to the plantation in which it lies. Revised at 1:2500 on MSD. (5)
