Full Description
A World War II anti-tank ditch located behind, Chesil Beach and visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1946 {1-2}. It comprises a linear bank running along the landward side of Burton Road before crossing the track at SW 5633 8441 where is continues as a bank and ditched feature running along the landward side of a post medieval drainage ditch before turning SE and into The Fleet. It forms part of a longer interrupted feature which runs from Castle Hill Cottages to the antitank trap at Reeds End (MWX1315). It was situated within the Abbotsbury Defence which was defended by the 6th Battalion Durham Light Infantry. The site was digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.
