Full Description

A house thought to have been built in the early 16th century as a three-room dwelling with a fireplace at one end. A central chimney was added later, probably in the 17th century and possibly replacing an open hearth, and an attic with dormer windows may have been added at the same time. In the first half of the 19th century the south-east end wall and south-west front were cased in brick. Most of the north-west end wall was rebuilt in the 19th century, with brick nogging being inserted, though some earlier elements remained. Traces of a blocked window can be seen in this wall, suggesting the original building had a solar. Tally marks in Roman numerals can be seen on many of the surviving timbers. The original doorway survives, though the head has gone. Surviving features of the interior include open fireplaces, plank-and-muntin partitions, chamfered ceiling beams, and several jointed-cruck trusses. <1>
