Full Description

A Post Medieval chalk pit is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs. The site is centred at ST 9546 0863 and comprises a linear quarry which measures a maximum of 53m long by 16m wide and is orientated north-west / south-east. The chalk pit cuts into a Medieval hollow way and is marked on the 1888 Ordnance Survey map. <1-2> A chalk pit shown on the Ordnance Survey map of 1885. The feature is cut into a medieval hollow way (MDO45155; NRHE Hob UID 209276) which runs in towards the feature from the northwest and continues southeast beyond it. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
